WIP Roundup (for a Little Knitting Inspiration!)

Heads up! This post contains affiliate links which means I get may get a commission if you purchase something based on my recommendations here.

Believe it or not, I only have four WIPs in my knitting basket right now! Usually I have many more, but I’m I guess I’ve been in a finishing mood lately. You guys rarely get to see WIP pics, usually I just show off the final project, so I thought I’d post a quick roundup of what I’m working on this month.

BTW… if you’re asking  yourself, “What is a WIP?” … it’s knitter-talk for “Work in Progress.”

Olive 18” Doll Cardigan

I’m knitting this little cardigan for my American Girl Doll, because: why not? 😉 This is working up pretty quickly considering that it’s composed entirely of twisted stitches. (Those twisted purls are a little finicky!)

American Girl Doll Cardigan Knitting Pattern

I’m using Knit Picks Stroll sock yarn in Pumpkin and the pattern is by Steph Wiley – you can get it from her etsy shop or on Ravelry. I’m a big fan of Steph Wiley’s American Girl Doll knitting patterns. They are well-written and turn out super adorable! (Here are a few other Steph Wiley patterns I’ve knitted). I expect to finish this up in the next week or so. The best part about knitting doll clothes is that they are quick projects.

Hue Shift Afghan

Speaking of quick projects… this is not one of them! I’ve been chipping away at a Hue Shift Afghan since January of 2021, but the good news is that I’m almost to the finish line! This is my second Hue Shift Afghan and the last one took me five years to knit, so I’m doing pretty well by comparison. (I should clarify that this pattern doesn’t really take so long to knit, I just have a habit of putting it aside for months on end. Plenty of people in my knitting group have banged these out in a couple of months).

Hue Shift Afghan Fourth Panel

You can buy the yarn and pattern as a kit from Knit Picks and get a little bundle discount. This one is the pre-selected Brava color choices for the jewel tone palette – just scroll to the bottom of the pattern page to see the kit options (or build your own!). The blanket is worked in four panels that are sewn together before adding a border. I’m darn-near finished with the fourth panel and I’ll admit, I’ve been playing a little yarn chicken. I ended up needing a teeny bit more of Rouge, Red, and Fairy Tale colors, but I think I’m going to be good on the rest.

Vanilla Latte Socks

I know what you’re thinking: where are the sock WIPs, Pepper?! Here they are. I’m really digging this pair of Vanilla Latte Socks knit up in speckled yarn! (Knit Picks Muse in Enthusiasm Speckle). BTW, the Vanilla Latte sock pattern isn’t available anymore, but I explain how to knit Vanilla Latte Socks without the pattern here.

Vanilla Latte Socks in Muse Speckle Yarn

Funny story about this yarn is that it is mildly cursed! It’s tried to be two other sock patterns before and they’ve all been sent to the frog pond due to gauge issues:

Plain Vanilla Socks in Self-Striping Yarn

Knit Picks Felici Rainbow Socks

I always have a pair of plain vanilla socks on the needles worked in self-striping sock yarn. You’ve seen a zillion of them on my blog! So, here is my latest pair. The yarn is Knit Picks Felici in Cloudy With a Chance of Rainbows, which was in their Fall 2020 color collection.

And there you go: a mini-lineup of WIPs! The collection is going to grow pretty soon: this weekend I plan to cast on some Verybusymonkey Irish Moss Socks in Global Backyard’s Cherry Blossom sock yarn and possibly a double-knit headband but I have to re-watch my favorite Craftsy class on the subject because it’s been so long since I’ve done double-knitting that I’ve forgotten how.
