I knitted up this cute scrunchie to amp up the awesomeness of my side pony this summer! Seriously, how cute is this stashbusting project?
I wish I could say that I had a pattern to share with you, but I don’t – I just sort of figured it out based on instructions another knitter once posted in a forum. I used some leftover sock yarn and size 1 circular needles. To start, I did a provisional cast on for 24 stitches and then I joined around a standard hair tie to work in the round , then I just worked magic loop style until it looked like a scrunchie. Finally, I used kitchener to graft the last row to the cast on row when I was done.
If that all sounds like an awful lot of effort to go to for a scrunchie, you would be right! If I did this again, I would probably skip the step of constructing this around an existing hair tie – that got very fiddly. Instead I would just insert some elastic in at the end and tie it closed at that point. Also, I think knitting this on size one needles was a little overkill. The tiny stitches are lovely, but this took several hours to knit on such small needles and I’d want the project to move a little faster next time. All that said, I really enjoy wearing this and it was definitely a fun little project.
