This is a fun scarf made from the free pattern Favorite Scarf Ever – a popular easy lace scarf knitting pattern. I added it to my Ravelry queue ages ago because I loved the way it looked in self-striping yarn, which is an obsession of mine, but I ended up making it out of this lovely multi-colored yarn from Expression Fiber Arts because, honestly, I bought that yarn on a whim and then couldn’t think of anything else to do with it… and WOW! It’s stunning.
The lace repeat on this scarf is super easy to memorize and fun to knit. I had it on my needles for a year because I kept getting distracted by other projects, but I bet you could easily knit this is a couple of weeks and it would make a lovely gift. I made mine super long because that’s how I like my scarves, but if you knit to the pattern dimensions, it would work up even faster.
Hot Tip: The pattern has you knit the scarf in two halves and then you graft them together in the middle so it the scarf ends are symmetrical. If I make this again I won’t do that, I’ll just knit it all in one piece and deal with the asymmetrical ends. This is because I like to wear my scarves as in the picture above where I fold it in half and then pull the ends through the loop. This means the middle-back of the scarf where the seam is located ends up in a very visible spot right by my face.
This is a great pattern for a beginner – especially if you decided to knit it all in one piece as I suggested. (If you knit in two pieces, you’ll have to know how to do Kitchener stitch to finish it off.)
Here’s another pic that shows off the pattern a bit more:
