Simple Skyp Tweed Socks

Tragically, I messed up on the heel of this sock and then tried ripping back to fix it, but totally messed it all up, so it’s frogged now. To be honest, the dark yarn was hiring my eyes, so I’m okay with it. They will be reborn with another yarn, and I have already repurposed the tweed into a colorwork sock!

Simple Skyp is one of my favorite knitting patterns for men’s socks. It’s not strictly a men’s pattern, but I think the simple rib look is a little more masculine-looking than the stitch patterns I typically knit. (But the skyp stitch add something a little special to the mix and keeps it fun to knit!) This used to be a free pattern but is now offered on a sliding price scale, which is very thoughtful of the designer, Adrienne Ku.

I’ve knitted several pairs of these over the years and I love how they look in tweed yarn. I’m using Knit Picks Stroll Tweed in Farmhouse Heather for this pair and I worry it may be a bit too dark to show off the skyp stitch, but we’ll see. I’ve also knitted Simple Skyp in Indigo, Barn Door, and Prussian Heather.

I knit most of my socks on U.S. size 1 or 1.5 needles but I’ve found that the gauge I get with size 2 needles looks great and it means I can knit these pretty quick, especially if I do magic loop. I’ve heard great things about ChiaoGoo Red Lace Circs for “speed knitting” projects, so I’m testing them out here. They say the extra-pointy tips help you knit faster. We’ll see!
