Vanilla Latte Sock Pattern (Or Rather, Vanilla Latte Socks without the pattern!)

Are You Looking for the Vanilla Latte Socks Pattern?

Heads up! This post contains affiliate links which means I get may get a commission if you purchase something based on my recommendations here.

Did you know that the #1 google search that points people to my blog is “Vanilla Latte Socks Pattern”? True story! I guess I knit a lot of them! (I’m also a popular destination for folks looking for reviews of the FLK heel and those wondering what is better: wood or metal knitting needles.  And… more people than you’d think are out there searching for “DIY banana slug plushie”… 🤔 😂)

Anyway, if you landed here looking for the elusive Vanilla Latte Socks Pattern, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that this pattern is no longer available. I don’t know the backstory but I’m sure there is a reason behind the designer’s choice to pull it. Anyway, the good news is that you don’t need a pattern to knit these socks! In knitting, the term “Vanilla Socks” refers to a super basic sock pattern. Usually all stockinette stitch – they are perfect for beginners! The Vanilla Latte name showed that this was a variation on that Vanilla concept – it’s essentially just a vanilla sock done up in a broken rib instead of plain stockinette. Easy peasy. I wouldn’t ever distribute a designer’s pattern without their consent, so I’m afraid I can’t share my original download of the pattern with you! Sorry! But I have written a blog post with instructions on how to knit Vanilla Lattes without the pattern. Check that post out now, then come back here to see my latest pair of Vanilla Lattes!

Vanilla Latte Sock Pattern (Or Rather, Vanilla Latte Socks without the pattern!)

I’m calling this pair my “Acadia Socks” because I knitted the first sock while I was at Acadia National Park. (I’m not a hiker, but my husband is, so I do a lot of knitting while I wait at trailheads). I love using speckle yarn for Vanilla Lattes because it rarely ever pools like variegated yarns do, so you can knit a flap and gusset style heel, which is just my personal preference. With variegated yarn, I typically do a short row heel like that infamous FLK heel people are always searching for.

Do you like this yarn? It’s another good news/bad news situation… it is Knit Picks Muse in Enthusiasm Speckle. The bad news is that this colorway has been discontinued. The good news is that they still have it in stock and it’s on clearance!! So, if you are reading this in October of 2023, you might still have a chance to snag it. (Did you miss the boat? Try searching Etsy for Speckle Sock Yarn – you’ll find tons of options).

Now, here are my project notes.
