The Best Knitting Pattern for Multicolored or Textured Yarn

Have you ever ended up with a single ball of multicolored or textured yarn in your stash that is completely gorgeous, but you have no idea what to knit with it?  That has happened to me a few times and I absolutely love pairing art yarn with a great free pattern called My So Called Scarf. (The pattern gets bonus points for conjuring up yummy mental pictures of Jared Leto the whole time I’m knitting…)

The stitch pattern is a simple and I think it looks more woven than knitted, which is why it works so great when knitting with multicolored or textured yarn.  Here is another sample of a My So Called Scarf that I made a few years ago out of a bulky roving-style yarn.  The one below is made out of a ball of Berroco Sesame, which is a worsted weight textured yarn in the colorway Lotus.

This is a project that really benefits from a good blocking to get all the stitches even.  I strongly recommend using blocking wires along the sides, if you have them!  (Random side note, I wish I had sprung for the blocking mats that have the grid printed on them instead of the plain ones! This was a pain to measure the width all the way down.)
