Socks of Kindness: Ten Years in the Making!

Heads up! This post contains affiliate links which means I get may get a commission if you purchase something based on my recommendations here.

Last November, I was cleaning out my Ravelry Queue and I found this pattern that I had queued in November 2010.  I guess it stood out to me that this was the ten-year anniversary of my intention to knit these socks, so I figured, let’s go for it!

As a special bonus, most people on Ravelry were knitting these with variegated yarn and the projects looked lovely, so I was thrilled that this pattern would serve as an invitation to use the gorgeous variegated yarn I bought from Stardust Fibers over the summer.

As you know, I tend to avoid variegated yarn for socks because there is always a risk that the colors will pool at the heel, but I’ve found that you can avoid the worst of it if you replace a gusseted heel with a short-row or afterthought heel.  I’m fond of afterthought heels, but I opted to do the Fish Lips Kiss Heel on this one, which is a great technique for a short row heel and well worth the $1 fee to access the instructions. Here is a bit of a close-up of the FLK Heel in action.
