Big Bad Baby Martinez

I made this baby blanket for the new grandson of a friend of mine.  It is an old pattern… throwing it way back to that Stitch ‘n Bitch book that was mega popular in the early 2000s.  (Incidentally, I used this book to re-learn how to knit in college after I had forgotten the skill I learned in childhood).  The pattern calls for hand-painted fingering weight yarn knitted with two strands held together, which would be lovely, but I got a similar effect with only one strand of this cool worsted weight yarn from Knit Picks called Color Mist. As a bonus, this is a lovely cotton/acrylic blend that is super easy to care for, unlike many of those delicate hand-painted yarns.

The pattern is super simple – just a seed stitch border and stockinette/reverse-stockinette pattern in the center.  It’s really hard to take nice pictures of baby blankets, so you get what you get in these two pics.  Above shows off the border and below is a zoomed-in view of the center of the blanket.  You’ll have to use your imagination for the rest. 😉

I used a size 9 needle which was probably too big for this yarn weight.  It produced a very loose fabric that wouldn’t be my first choice for a baby blanket, but that’s what I get for skipping a gauge swatch.  Still, I think it turned out nice.
