We’re deep into the #StayAtHome movement at the moment so I figured there was no better time than to share my latest creation: Ruby Slippers! (Get it? …because there’s no place like home?)
These are some BFF socks by Cookie A knit up in Knit Picks Stroll Glimmer. Love this pattern and this yarn! The glimmery flecks in this yarn are really fun with cable patterns – they add a bit of interest without distracting from the structure from the cables.
Speaking of cables, I have worked out a trick to knitting this pattern without a cable needles and without a row counter, so I can totally zone out while knitting it. Here is how to cable without counting rows:
This cable pattern this is really just ribbing with a cable cross every set number of rows. You don’t need a row counter because you can just count how many rows you have worked above the last cross and know when you need to do it again. But, honestly, I can’t tell which row is the cross row just by looking at the knitting, so I use a bulb safety pin and I hook it onto the stitch when I do the cable cross, then I can just count up from there. You only need to put a pin on the first cable in the round – not on every cable, of course!
One more tip: the star sock blockers in my photo are absolutely darling, but I just want to caution that I would never actually wet block a pair of socks like this because it would stretch out the rib too much and they won’t stay on your feet as well. I only block socks if it’s absolutely necessary to open up an intricate lace pattern. Otherwise, I just leave them be.
