Looking for a Valentine’s Day gift for a knitter you love? I spent the day browsing the interwebs for some super fun gifts that any knitter will adore! Since the types of supplies knitters like can vary based on their favorite projects, I’ll include some notes to let you know when a gift is specifically suited to a specific type of knitting.
Handthrown Ceramic Yarn Bowl ($50-70)
I bought this yarn bowl from New Moon Ceramics a few years ago and it’s absolutely beautiful! The little heart cutouts are adorable and I love that it has the spiral notch cut out too — instead of threading your yarn through one of the heart holes, you can wind it into the spiral and that way you can take your project out of the bowl at any time. The knitter you love will definitely love this!
The Perfect Gift For: Knitters Who Sometimes Knit at Their Desk! (Pop the yarn in the bowl and it won’t roll on the floor!)
Budget Option: OK, that bowl is stunning, but definitely a splurge! If you’re looking for a cheaper option (or if you waited until the last minute and you need fast shipping) check out Amazon. I love this polished Rosewood yarn bowl and it comes in three sizes at price points in the $20-$30 range.
Knitting Project Bag ($30)
I’m a huge fan of project bags by Fancy Boy Designs on Etsy because there are SO MANY fabrics to choose from! If you’re into the Valentine’s Day theme, you can’t go wrong with this cute heart motif project bag. But the best part about this shop is that you can search for themes that your knitter is into: succulents, Tarot, rainbows, whatever… it’s all there.
Fancy Boy bags come in a few sizes. The one above is a medium and it’s perfect for socks or shawls. The larger ones are great for sweaters or baby blankets.
The Perfect Gift For: Knitters who take their projects out and about!
Budget Option: Check out the On Sale / Clearance section for bags that are up to 50% off.
Mini Heart Stitch Markers ($3)
If you’re looking for a small gift, you can pick these up for under five bucks and they’d be great to tuck into the envelope along with a romantic note or a cute valentine’s day card – you could even dump them in there loose, like confetti!
This set of markers is made for smaller needles – up to size three needles. So, they’d be for a sock knitter. If your knitter likes to knit scarves, hats, or sweaters, they’ll most likely want a larger diameter marker, like these.
The Perfect Gift For: All Knitters! Stitch markers are a universally loved knitting supply. Just be sure to get smaller diameter markers for sock knitters and larger diameter markers for knitters who work with larger needles.
Pink Heart Knitting Patch ($4)
This fun patch is another small gift that could easily be tucked in a card. Like the stitch markers, it’s a great choice if you just want a small something to pop in a card or if want to buy gifts for more than one knitter – like if you wanted to get one for each member of your knitting group.
The Perfect Gift For: Knitters who moonlight as students… they can iron it on their backpacks!
Yarn is My Love Language Coffee Mug ($23)
There are lots of cute knitting mugs on Etsy but I really like this one because the design is printed on both sides and you have the option of buying the mug in a larger 15-ounce size for major coffee consumption. (The fewer times you have to get up to refill your cup, the more knitting you get done!)
The Perfect Gift For: Knitters who like to give handmade gifts: yarn is their love language!
Budget Option: Why have a single knitting mug when everything you own could be a knitting thing? (Or, at least 60 things you own). Check out this pack of knitting stickers on Amazon that will set you back about $6 and are perfect for decorating a travel mug.
Yarn with a Love-Related Colorway Name ($28-$32)
Yarn is always a good gift and you can make it a little more romantic by picking a color with a love-related name. This one is called “Rose Petals” and it’s a fingering weight yarn perfect for sock knitters. If your knitter likes other projects, I’d recommend a worsted weight yarn, like this one called “Red Roses”. One skein of the sock yarn is all you need for socks or a shawl and one skein of the worsted would be plenty for a hat or mittens.
The Perfect Gift For: Yarn is a wonderful gift for knitters if you know what kind of yarn they like. Check out my post on buying yarn as a gift for tips.
Budget Option: Indie dyed yarn is fun, but it can be a splurge! If you’re looking for something in the $7-$15 range, consider getting some Caron Little Crafties or Lion Brand BonBons and pop them in a flower vase, a heart-shaped box (as if they were chocolates), or just hide them around the house on Valentine’s Day! I guarantee you that finding a miniature ball of yarn in your coffee mug or shoe is an experience that will delight any knitter and these little balls of yarn are perfect for knitting stuffed animals or adding accents to any project.
I hope this list was helpful! What did you buy for your knitting love?
