I really loved the Holli Yeoh sweater I knitted a few years ago, the Paxton Shell, so I thought I’d try my hand at another one of her designs: Take Wing. Not gonna lie, the pattern instructions look wicked complicated for a shell that looks so simple… I almost got scared off. But I thought to myself, WWBD? And I forged on. (That’s What Would Buffy Do… of course!)

Pattern: Take Wing Shell by Holli Yeoh (also on Ravelry)
Yarn: Knit Picks Lindy Chain in Blush – this is my first time knitting with a chainette yarn. So far I love the look of it. I’ll report back with more as I continue to knit.
Materials & Items in my Photos
- I knitted the hem & trims on metal U.S. size 3 fixed circular needles and I’m knitting the body on wood U.S. size 4 needles from my Sunstruck Interchangeable Circular Knitting Needle Set.
- You’ll spy various Lily & Fox nail wraps as well…
- In the blocking photos, I’m using puzzle-blocking mats and my favorite comb pins. I have the shoulder stitches held on small lengths of barber cord – I bought a whole spool of it, so I can just tie knots in it and cut them out without too much guilt. Then, I wound the long yarn tails at the shoulders onto plastic bobbins so they wouldn’t tangle. (I needed to save them to do the 3-needle bind off).
Notes & Such
- I swatched and I got gauge, but I didn’t follow the extensive instructions about weighing down the swatch while blocking it. I figure that linen and cotton knitted fabric is always going to do its own thing once you start wearing it. It’s really difficult to guess how much weight would actually simulate the weight of the finished garment, etc.
- Update: no worries! It fits!
- The double knit hem took forever to knit and used almost an entire ball of yarn! I hope it’s worth the effort!
