One of my favorite clothing items I’ve ever owned was an army green knee-length skirt that flared at the bottom. The skirt was a size zero, which was great for 20-year-old Pepper, but, alas, all good things must come to an end, and I eventually grew out of it.
Then, the other day, I was scrolling Bluesky, and I saw someone knitted a skirt that had a very similar shape, so I was inspired to try to recreate my old favorite!

Project Details
Pattern: Little Flirt Skirt by Faina Goberstein (Free Pattern)
Yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted in Cilantro Heather and a bit of Stroll in Bamboo Heather for the inside of the waistband
Materials & Stuff From the Pics:
- Wood interchangeable circular needles in US sizes 9, 7, and 5. I’ve used the cable connectors that came with the set to make a really long cable to work the bottom of the skirt before you close up the pleats – at 312 stitches, it’s got quite a circumference!

Notes:
- I initially tried to knit the bottom of the skirt on a single cable instead of the two strung together, but the stitches were too tightly pushed together that they got horribly twisted. I ended up accidentally doing a mobius and had to start over! 😭
- The notes from other knitters on Ravelry all say this runs big and my measurements put me between pattern sizes, so I am working at a slightly tighter gauge than the pattern calls for and hope it will all even out. My gauge is 20 stitches over 4” in stockinette (the swatch for the main part of the skirt) instead of 18 stitches. I didn’t swatch all the needle sizes, though.
- I knitted the inside of my waistband with fingering weight yarn to reduce bulk, so I didn’t do the decrease row at the end. I had to work a few more rows to get the right length.
