I’m knitting this tank top together with my pal Jill! We met Dana from Blue Dog Dye House at the New England Farm & Fiber Festival and we each bought a two-pack of this beautiful DK naturally-dyed indigo yarn.
This pattern has you hold two strands of fingering-weight yarn together for a marled look in the body of the tank. I had this dusty pink yarn is my stash that I knew I wanted to pair with the indigo-dyed yarn, but I didn’t have enough to carry it throughout. So, I went rogue on the designer’s yarn and gauge choices, and I’m just doing my own thing.
This is going to be a bit of a game of yarn chicken with the main color… may the odds be ever in my favor.

Yarn: Blue Dog Dye House DK Cotton dyed with Indigo & Cochineal and Knit Picks Gloss Fingering in Velveteen
Materials & Items in my Photos
- US Size 5 wood-tipped circular needles from my Sunstruck Options Set (I’m using the 23” cable to make 32” circulars)
- Gauge check ruler (my favorite technique is to take a photo of the ruler on the swatch like this and mark it up as I count stitches so I don’t lose track!)
- Purple point protectors
- My favorite precision pocket scale (aka my “weed scale”) so I can check the weight of my yarn as accurately as a drug dealer would. 😉
Notes & Such
- Fun fact: I knitted about an inch of the hem, then realized I’d accidentally twisted my cast-on! D’oh! Had to frog and start over.
- I’m knitting a custom size in between L and 1X at a modified gauge. Should end up with a 39” bust if I did the math right.
