I don’t know if this project even needs an introduction… I mean, it’s just a matter of time in any knitter’s life before she finally casts on a pair of sheep socks… right? Baaahh!!
I suppose one thing worth mentioning is that I’m experimenting with knitting these inside out, as per my conversation with the stranded colorwork pro, Knitty Melissa. It feels a little weird at first, but it’s not difficult at all.

Project Details
Pattern: “Sheep Socks” by Tiny van Hengel – free on Ravelry; incorporating a Fish Lips Kiss Heel.
Yarn: Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn in Swamp and Knit Picks Stroll in White and Black.
Needles: U.S. Size 1.5 (2.5 mm)
- I started knitting these on 32” nickel-plated circs, which were okay at first, but once I introduced the black yarn into the mix, it was too much going on with the three strands of yarn plus the cable, so I switched to a 9” circular needle. Technically, it’s a 10” because I’m using a ChiaoGoo Twist Lace Short Combo needle set up with a 2” tip in my left hand and a 3” tip in my right (dominant) hand, because it’s a little easier to grip. Then I switched back to 24” nickel-plated circs because the smaller needles were getting on my nerves, lol.
Size Knit: CO 64

- Heart Sock Blockers: The maker who sold me the dark wood heart sock blockers doesn’t sell them anymore, but MlynJedrow on Etsy makes very similar ones in a lighter colored wood.
