I have a huge box of acrylic yarn in dozens of colors that I call my “Bin of Chaos,” which is something I started assembling when I took Franklin Habit’s Color Theory for Knitters course on Craftsy. Habit has you practice on fair isle swatches in the course, but I decided to knit a small project instead of a swatch: a little striped raglan sweater for my American Girl Doll, Athena!
I put red, pink, and red-violet yarns together – leftovers from my Jewel-Toned Hue Shift Afghan – and I loved the Valentine’s Day vibe it gave off. I believe this is an analogous color scheme, which is when you pair colors next to each other on the color wheel. If it’s not that exactly, that’s okay. It’s what I was attempting to do though! I think it turned out pretty cute! If I did it again, I might pick a light pink yarn instead of the bright pink to create more contrast between the red and pink, but I still really like it as-is.
Here is Athena dressed up for her Valentine’s Day party!
I used my soon-to-be-released 18’’ Doll Sweater Pattern Generator to create the pattern. I shared a little teaser of it in this post.
What do you think? Do you ever play with yarn colors, just because? Do you knit swatches or opt for little projects like this one?
