Variegated Yarn Socks in Seattle Seahawks colorway

Seattle Socks

Eric visited Seattle last year and stopped by So Much Yarn at Pike Place Market to pick up a little gift for me.  I wish I had been there to see him browsing around a yarn shop all on his own! Must have been quite the sight.

I was a little shocked that he picked out this Seahawks yarn for me, given his love for the Patriots, but I think he was going for a Seattle-themed gift, and a choosing football-themed colorway is so him. 🙂  It did present a challenge for me to work with variegated yarn for the first time in a long while.  I don’t like how it variegated yarn pools, so you have to be super intentional about what pattern you select and always use an afterthought heel if pooling bugs you. (Some knitters are totally fine with it, and that’s cool too!)

I tried out about three patterns and was unhappy with how the yarn was pooling, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and invent something.  I pulled out my Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary and flipped through to the lace section and swatched a few stitch patterns out.  I decided on the Chevron lace pattern.  It worked perfectly to produce the even stripes you see, vs. just random blobs of color that I was getting doing straight stockinette, Prairie Spring, Hermione’s Every Day Socks, or a few other lace patterns I tried.

I didn’t take amazing notes as I worked on these, but you can visit my Ravelry page to see what’s there.  I’m not going to re-post them all here.
